"Election of grace" here is in contrast to election of works. God does not elect according to the works of the law but according to grace. Now, grace and faith go together.
Ro 4:16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace...
God elects not according to what a sinner earned and deserved. No, God elects a sinner who trusts in Christ as an undeserved favor. This expression is not about Calvinism's arbitrary election of some sinners to salvation at all.
