Was The Lord Jesus Ever Called Immanuel?

Isa 7:14 "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

He was not called Immanuel actually in His first coming, but He was called Immaneul in effect.

You see, the Jews believed that God alone is the Savior of mankind. That's a belief as stubborn as granite in their minds. Now, when Mary called Him Jesus, meaning Yahweh is Savior, she was actually, in effect, naming Him Immanuel, God with us. For He was really God the Savior and He was actually with them now as a human being.

God the Savior (Jesus) is in their midst. Whether she knew of the full import and meaning of what she called Him or not, the fact remains that she called the baby she was holding in her arms as Yahweh is Savior.

Of course, later on, she realized that her baby was really Immanuel, God with us. The name (Jesus) she called her Child actually corresponded as to who He is (God) and what He did (He became Man to be with us).
